Over the years, Wolfers Lighting has been involved in several Design Homes. The following provides insight on the lighting products we supplied for the 2015 Design Home at The Residences of Turner Hill, a residential golf community located in Ipswich, Massachusetts. Wolfers associate Kate worked directly with Chelsi from Design East Interiors.
Below, you'll find behind-the-scenes revelations from Kate and Chelsi along with stunning images and details regarding the selected light fixtures.
Chelsi and her team from Design East Interiors had been working at Turner Hill for over a year on various projects, so they had a good understanding of the residents and their lifestyles. Think empty nesters with an eclectic style who adore traveling around the world and collecting treasures. This helped inform the type of lighting Chelsi wanted for the Design Home. She says, "I wanted the lighting to have an edge, be unique, and have some sparkle to it. I wanted some pieces to look classic and refined, but others to stand out and have character."
Chelsi notes that she had different lighting goals for different rooms. For example, she wanted the lighting to sparkle in the kitchen. For the bathrooms, she wanted to create a chic, spa-like vibe. A touch of drama was the goal for the stairwell along with plenty of elegance for the bedrooms.
Armed with her wish list, Chelsi met with Kate at the Wolfers Lighting showroom in Waltham. Chelsi explains the experience: "We started by walking through the elaborate showroom. Then, we sat with Kate and looked through catalogs. But as Kate got to know our style and what we were looking for, she made several wonderful suggestions."
In this case, pictures are worth a thousand words. But it also helps to hear Chelsi and Kate talk about the final selections. The dining room light fixture from Elegant Lighting continues the sparkly theme: a 6-light chandelier that appears to float inside the polished nickel orbs. Talk about a fantastic addition to the room! The master bathroom serves up refined vanity lights from Maxim Lighting. This crystal chandelier from American Brass and Crystal adds some sophistication to the bedroom. For a truly dramatic turn, the stairwell features a mid-century modern, very tall fixture from Corbett Lighting that is sure to catch the eye.
You'll find another eye-catching Kovacs flush mount in the study—one that casts a lovely light around the room coupled with an artistic metalwork frame and crystals hanging from the bottom. The living room boasts a Visual Comfort flush mount in Gunmetal finish. And the exercise room has a fun piece from Crystorama Lighting.
Even though everyone at Wolfers Lighting and Design East Interiors loves all the final selections, both Chelsi and Kate confess to having personal favorites. Chelsi says, "My absolute favorite light fixture was the one by Corbett Lighting that we used in the stairwell. It has such a unique style and is like a work of art to me. I just love it."
Kate says, "My favorite fixture is the Hubbardton Forge 'Exos' in the wine room. All the lighting in that space is fabulous. The Exos semi flush and the AION LED tape that lines the built-ins make the space so lovely."
When it comes to finding pieces you'll love for your space, Chelsi offers this wise advice: "To me, light fixtures are like the jewelry in the home. I feel like most homeowners and builders see lighting as an afterthought and just throw something in because they have to. The right light fixture can really finish off a room and add so much beauty and character to home. Whether you want to create elegance or drama or an edge with your lighting, I feel it really needs to be something that you take time to select and not rush through your decision. Imagine a woman in a beautiful gown with no necklace or earrings—or even with something that is oversized or the wrong style—it really can ruin the overall look of her ensemble. You need to have just that right sparkle to complete the look."
